Out and About with Kat’

Kat’ Taylor is thrilled to say that she will be appearing in Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking 1971 musical Follies.
This is Kat’s thrid time appearing in Follies. The first time Kat’ did Follies, she played “Young Phyllis,” then years later she played “Phyllis.” In the upcoming Chicago production, she will play the role of “Solange LaFitte” and will perform the song “Ah! Paree!” In past productions, this role has been played by Fifi D'Orsay, Maria Charles, and Liliane Montevecchi.
Follies opened on Broadway in 1971 and tells the story of a group of former Follies girls as they come together for a reunion on the eve of the demolition of their former theater. As they reminisce about the old days, sing old songs, and confront old loves, they are also forced to confront the road they didn't take, the ghosts of their past, and the follies of their lives.
The original Broadway production ran for 522 performances and won seven Tony Awards. It premiered in London in 1987, and was later revived on Broadway in 2001 and again in 2011. The score includes many Sondheim classics, including “Ah! Paree,” “Broadway Baby,” “I’m Still Here,” and “Losing My Mind.”
In addition to Kat’, Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s cast includes Susan Moniz, Caroline O’Connor, Brent Barrett, Robert Petkoff, and Hollis Resnick. It is directed by Gary Griffin.
Performances begin on October 4.
